CORNERSTONE LIBRARY

At Cornerstone, we believe that children should be exposed to excellent, timeless literature that feeds their minds, nourishes their souls, ignites their imaginations, and molds their wills. These "living books" are a key part of our rich curriculum and are made available to the children in their classroms and in our library. Our library is home to 6,000 volumes of fiction, non-fiction, reference and biographical books for readers of all ages, abilities, and interests. Additionally, five HP computers with filters, high speed internet access are available to sudents in the upper grades to assist them with research.

PUSCH RIDGE LIBRARY

The Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Library serves as an academic and community resource for students, teachers, and parents. It is open and available from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year, except for half days and finals weeks. Students are welcome before and after school, at lunch and during the school day with teacher permission. Students use the library for study, research, homework, and to make up tests missed during absences. Athletes often stay in the library after school and before practices, making good academic use of their time. Once they’ve finished their work, they may choose to play a game of chess or check out a good book or website. If they need help with research or a book recommendation, Mrs. Abrams is readily available.

Our library has over 5,000 fiction and nonfiction volumes available for student checkout, with an emphasis on historical fiction covering the time periods studied in our middle school curriculum and time-honored classics for high school free reading selections. We also carry copies of every academic textbook used at PRCA available for students to use in the library to accomplish homework assignments in the event their personal copy is at home. Additionally, we have 30 computers (24 MacBooks and 6 Dell Desktops) equipped with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), each with high speed internet accessibility and connected to high quality copier/printers. Teachers are able to reserve the Mac Lab in order to bring their entire classes in for internet and database research and instructional activities.

In 2008 our Library was chosen as the beneficiary of An Evening that Speaks Volumes, and our first-ever school endowment, the Eric R. Abrams Library Endowment . Proceeds from the auction and dinner event purchased a complete MAC Lab for our Library - providing an additional 25 lap tops for student use.  Gifts to the Eric R. Abrams Library Endowment will provide general operating support for the library.

The Library is also used for a variety of gatherings, including our weekly staff devotions, student club meetings and monthly Principal’s Coffees where parents are invited to discuss matters of importance with school administrators. On a smaller scale, it hosts one-on-one college counseling sessions by appointment with Mrs. Abrams. And, if you’re lucky, you’ll find a little something in the candy jar on her desk to make the time you spend there just a little sweeter.
